Renault not worried about rivals’ speed

(GMM) Christian Silk denies that he is worried about the performance of Renault's main rivals after the first major group test of the year last week.

From studying the Valencia time sheets, some observers reckon McLaren and Ferrari lead the pecking order with their newly unveiled 2007 cars, with Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella and Heikki Kovalainen trailing in the 'R27' racer.

But Silk, who is the French squad's chief test engineer, said trying to log impressive lap times last week was not a priority.

"Well, McLaren and Ferrari have both confirmed that they're quick," he admitted. "It's not really a big surprise.

"But we're a strong team too and these performances don't worry us."

The 'big three' teams resumed running at Jerez on Tuesday.
