Walker Racing Completes Atlantics Houston Testing

Walker Racing completed the second of three pre-season tests this weekend for the 2007 Cooper Tires Presents the Champ Car Atlantic Series Powered by Mazda in Houston, Texas.

Piloting the No.5 and No.10 Walker Racing Swift 016a.chassis for the two day test were the team’s newest members Swiss Simona De Silvestro (right) and Briton Ryan Lewis. Both drivers proceed to adapt and work out the kinks in the car as they logged in laps around the 2.38 mile MSR Houston road course.

After searching for the precise setup yesterday, the Walker Racing clan found the right combination with De Silvestro in this morning’s session. The 18 year-old clocked the fifth fastest time of 1:18.967 in this morning’s session, and by the end of the day improved her lap time with a 1:19.891.

“This morning was pretty good, we struggled a little bit yesterday, but we found the right things this morning. We keep learning and improving the car and will be ready for the next test," stated De Silvestro.

Continuing to work out the car, Lewis finished today’s session with a fast lap time of 1:20.554. “It was one of those weekends that you sometimes have. Unfortunately, I didn’t get as many laps in the afternoon session and I think I could have had a better result. Yesterday we struggled a bit, but this morning we made some good improvements and developed the car, but we didn’t get to run it more. Luckily, it was just a test weekend and not a race, so we will be ready for Laguna Seca," stated Lewis.

The Indianapolis based squad gained valuable knowledge over the challenging two day test. “Overall we had a challenging two day test, but got a good direction from the car. It’s a strong, competitive field, but we continue to develop the right setup to stay competitive," stated Walker Racing owner Derrick Walker. Walker Racing PR
