ISC moving along in Washington track process

A day after Washington's governor said she didn't see the political support needed to be optimistic about a proposed race track in Kitsap County, International Speedway Corp. took its case to the state Senate.

Speaking by phone following an appearance before the Agriculture and Economic Development Committee, ISC Vice President Grant Lynch said he didn't understand why there wasn't much local support.

Lynch said there are politicians – the mayor of the city of Bremerton, which might annex the site, as well as U.S. representatives and a county commissioner – from the area who are for the proposal.

Lynch said that support, along with the approval of unions and other groups, shows that the project is a viable one for Kitsap County. He said the senate hearing went well.

"We're showing a willingness to partner with the local community and the state," Lynch said in a phone interview after the session Tuesday. "We want to partner and bring this economic development to the state."

Lynch and other supporters, including Lt. Gov. Brad Owen, were scheduled to speak to the Finance Committee of the state House of Representatives later Tuesday night. Scenedaily.com
