Pruett to pull double-duty weekend in Mexico City
The 2007 season marks Pruett’s fourth year of racing in the Rolex Sports Car Series for CGRFS. The two-time Rolex Series Champion (2004, 2006) has competed in almost every form of motorsports. Throughout his driving career, the 46-year old California native has tallied nine major championships and multiple Daytona Prototype records for wins (12), pole positions (9) and podium finishes (24).
This is Montoya’s first full-time season in NASCAR, but third year of racing for team owner Chip Ganassi. The Bogotá, Colombia native drove for Ganassi’s open-wheel team in 1999 and 2000, winning the 1999 CART Championship and the 2000 Indianapolis 500. His racing credentials include an impressive 137 starts between CART, IndyCar and Formula One, where he’s tallied 18 wins, 26 poles, 60 top-five and 79 top-10 finishes.
Earlier this month, Pruett and Montoya claimed the Rolex 24 At Daytona win along with their teammate Salvador Duran. The victory marked Pruett’s second overall Rolex 24 At Daytona win and Montoya’s first run and win of the competition.
The NASCAR event in Mexico will mark Pruett’s first official Busch start for his long-time team owners Chip Ganassi and Felix Sabates, and Montoya’s seventh. Pruett made two stock car runs for CGRFS in NEXTEL Cup Series competition last year, piloting the No. 40 Dodge at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., and also at Watkins Glen (N.Y.) International, which resulted in a sixth-place finish.
The No. 41 CGRFS Busch Series Dodge is hosting a variety of drivers this year. Along with Pruett and Reed Sorenson, David Stremme and Bryan Clauson will share the ride throughout 2007, as well. After Mexico, Sorenson will be the next man behind the wheel, resuming his driving duties of the No. 41 Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit Dodge at Las Vegas Motor Speedway for the March 10 Busch race.
