Formula 3 series planned for USA

CHICAGO, IL — Jerry Kunzman, Executive Director, National Auto Sport Association (NASA), and R. Cary Capparelli, President, Omni-Communique Inc., announced the formation of an exploratory committee to research the feasibility of re-establishing the international Formula Three race category in the United States.

“Both Cary and I agree that there may be a real need to bring back a United States Formula Three championship," said Kunzman. “Interest has always remained very high."

Capparelli added, “Formula Three is the proper formula to develop American Formula One drivers. A long term goal is to establish all international categories in North America."

Capparelli is the founder of the original United States Formula Three Championship which ran with success in 2000 in association with Volkswagen. NASA was the organizing and sanctioning body for its race at Sears Point. The committee will determine a need of both a United States only series and a full continental North American Championship. The group is targeting a 2009 startup.
