STR sent ‘signal’ to laid back Speed – Berger
(GMM) Toro Rosso chiefs deliberately made Scott Speed wait for his 2007 contract in order to instill in him a more "professional attitude", according to team co-owner Gerhard Berger.
The Austrian, who was a ten time winner in formula one, confirmed speculation to the 'APA' news agency that the long delay was a ploy in reaction to Californian Speed's laid back approach to his rookie season at the pinnacle of motor sport.
"We wanted to send a signal that we do not necessarily roll out the red carpet for drivers," Berger said.
Another 'signal' for Speed may have been the winter tests of Sebastien Bourdais, despite the French driver's contractual ties for 2007 in the American Champ Car series.
