Bourdais drives motor homes too

Sebastien Bourdais spent two days driving a motor home from California to Texas before returning to the vehicle he handles for a living.

Bourdais' wife, Claire, gave birth to a daughter in December and the couple believed the only way to get through the early Champ Car schedule was to invest in a recreational vehicle.

The new family didn't stop to see any sights on the 1,550-mile (2,500-kilometre) journey from Los Angeles to Houston. And for someone who chews up hundreds of miles (kilometres) at twice the speed every week, the trip was a cruise for Bourdais.

"This you pilot," Bourdais said, pointing at his race car. "That thing, you just drive."

It's worth the hassle. Between practice laps and media interviews this week, Bourdais eagerly hops on a moped and zips to the RV to check on his new arrival, Emma.

"It really hasn't changed my life all that much," he said Friday. "It's just that you go back to the motor home and see a little, tiny face. It just adds a little extra." Autonet.ca
