Reid out for New Zealand
For the first time in A1GP the team was scheduled to split the Black Beauty between both of its drivers for this weekend’s RAB Capital A1GP Brands Hatch, Great Britain, with Halliday and Jonny Reid driving one race each. The decision on who would drive which race was supposed to be made after Saturday’s morning practice session, however, Reid crashed on the second lap of this afternoon practice session, limiting his track time before the competitive part of the weekend.
The team had no rookie in this morning’s session and has now opted to give Halliday, who scored a podium finish the last time A1GP raced at Brands Hatch in 2005, the rest of the weekend’s driving duties. The team hasn’t yet clinched second in the A1GP World Cup of Motorsport standings, with A1 Team Great Britain mathematically capable of catching it.
Reid told A1GP.com: “I braked too late going into Druids, but at the end of the day I just tried to do the best job I could and it cost me.
“I didn’t know the circuit and I had to prove myself and that’s what happened. I didn’t want to go down as second best so I gave it my all, and I didn’t bring it home. It obviously wasn’t a good thing.
“I’m out now for the weekend and I can’t grip the steering wheel properly. It was always the aim to have Matt drive tomorrow’s session and I have no track time, so that’s the end of my weekend.
“But I’ll be fine. They build us Kiwi pretty hard."
