McLaren test radical wing in Spain

(GMM) After trialing the innovation during the Menorca straight-line test last week, McLaren on Monday publicly tested a radical new front wing design as the group test at Circuit de Catalunya kicked off in dry conditions.

Test driver Pedro de la Rosa was at the wheel of the concept; a more aggressive version of the sort of front wing design pioneered by teams including Williams and Toyota.

The upper plane on the new McLaren wing, which was compared back-to-back with an older design on Monday morning, extends uniquely above and across the entire tip of the MP4-22's front nose.

The other significant talking point in Barcelona is the possibility that puffy overhead clouds could dump rain on the Spanish layout on Tuesday or Wednesday, perhaps extending the test to also include Thursday.
