Road Atlanta testing for Tafel Porsche team

With a little time now to breathe and get things sorted, Tafel Racing will spend Tuesday at Road Atlanta doing a first proper test of its Porsche 911 GT3 RSRs in advance of the Utah Grand Prix and the second half of the 2007 American Le Mans Series.

All four team drivers – Robin Liddell, Wolf Henzler, Dominik Farnbacher and team owner Jim Tafel – all will drive in the test.

“We have a very extensive and specific program of things to run through," said team technical director Tony Dowe. “We got the cars about a week before having to leave for the Winter Test, then by the time we got home for a couple of weeks to get ready for the race, you had very little time to test. Then after Sebring we went to St. Petersburg, then had two weeks to get to Long Beach and Houston the week after that."

The Tuesday test will give Tafel plenty of time to travel to Churchill Downs for Saturday’s Kentucky Derby. Tafel and his father James own Street Sense, which was listed Monday afternoon at 5-to-1 to win the 133rd Derby.

The next round of the American Le Mans Series is the Utah Grand Prix, set for 5:05 p.m. CT on Saturday, May 19 from Miller Motorsports Park near Salt Lake City. CBS Sports will air the race at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, May 20. MotorsTV in Europe, SPEED Latin America and 7TV in Russia also will provide international coverage.
