NASCAR auto tag wins Senate OK

"Trees are Cool." And NASCAR is, too. So says the Florida Senate, which voted Monday to create five new auto specialty plates, including a "Florida NASCAR" plate and one that proclaims the coolness of trees.

Sponsored by Sen. Carey Baker, R-Eustis, the bill would add to the 109 specialty plates already authorized by lawmakers. Money from the $25 annual fee for the NASCAR tag would be split among NASCAR, the charitable NASCAR Foundation, and the Florida Sports Foundation, which markets sports in the state. But the NASCAR tag hasn't crossed the finish line. The House version of the bill, which includes eight additional military-themed tags, hasn't been scheduled for a vote.
