Kristensen’s 24 Hours of Le Mans in doubt

The serious crash at the DTM opener three weeks ago might have a serious aftermath. German newspaper Motorsport Aktuell reports that Tom Kristensen, who was heavily involved in the crash, has suffered more serious injuries than initially diagnosed. Kristensen was unable to contest at last weekend’s DTM round at Oschersleben – and might not be able to compete at Le Mans either. The seven-time Le Mans champion suffered a second-degree (out of four) brain trauma, causing impaired vision and heavy headaches. Kristensen is expected to not be able to compete at third DTM round at the Lausitzring on the 20th of May, leaving very little time for recovery until the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

While Audi would have enough skilled drivers to compensate Kristensen in a worst case scenario, it would be a huge disappointment for the countless Danish fans as well as the whole event. The last time Kristensen was not part of the Le Mans grid dates back to 1996 – more than a decade ago.
