Plans finalized for The Glen Club

Officials at Watkins Glen International have finalized plans for the Glen Club in 2007 which will be in place for the rest of the season beginning with the Watkins Glen Grand Prix weekend July 6-8th. The upscale temporary structure will remain at the track for the NASCAR at The Glen weekend August 9 -12, as well as the Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix, September 7-9. The club is also available for catered event rentals in July and August during non-race weekends.

A fire destroyed the permanent Glen Club late in the evening on March 6. Since then, track officials have been working on a plan to for a temporary facility for the 2007 racing season. The temporary structure will placed where the Glen Club previously stood, inside the track on the famed “Esses".

“We know our fans expect a great experience when they purchase a ticket to the Glen Club," stated Craig Rust, President of Watkins Glen International. “While we can’t replace the memories that the previous club had, we expect this temporary structure to bridge the gap in 2007, as well as possess the quality and high-end experience that are fans have become accustomed to."

Kirby Rental Services will provide the large tent that will be placed on scaffolding supplied by T&B Equipment Co, Inc., out of Ashland Virginia. The tent structure will provide fans with a window-enclosed, climate controlled setting. The temporary facility will have with numerous amenities, such as seating for 200 fans, a full bar, and fully catered meals. Fans will be able to watch the exciting racing action on one of several televisions inside the structure or take advantage of the outside tiered seating overlooking the famed Esses.

Interests in The Glen Club has been growing in recent years and Glen Club tickets for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series weekend at The Glen have already sold out. Fans interested in purchasing club tickets for the Watkins Glen Grand Prix and Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix weekends should act now as limited quantities are available. If fans buy their Glen Club tickets now, like all advance ticket purchases at WGI, they will have the first right to renew their tickets before they go on-sale to the general public next year.

Following the Watkins Glen Grand Prix, the Glen Club will also be available for private rentals through the rest of July and all of August. Located high above Seneca Lake in the heart of the Finger Lakes Wine Country, the Glen Club continues to make the perfect place for business luncheons, wedding receptions or any special occasion. The track is currently working on and evaluating various options for 2008 and hopes to make an announcement in the fall.

“We are currently working with HUNT Engineering Inc., on a plan for a new permanent Glen Club and will submit our plans to the ISC Board of Directors for their approval this fall," stated Rust.

The Watkins Glen Grand Prix will include entertainment both on and off the track including music, wine tasting, fireworks, kids’ games, and a huge fireworks celebration of our nation’s independence on both Friday and Saturday nights. On Saturday, don’t miss the viewing party following the on-track action for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series Pepsi 400 at Daytona International Speedway from the FrontStretch Grandstand.
