Viso survives horror GP2 crash

UPDATE Following a high speed accident in today's GP2 Series race at Magny-Cours, Ernesto Viso (Racing Engineering) was transferred from the track's on-site Medical Centre to the Hospital Pierre Beregovoy, Nevers, for check-ups. He was visited by the FIA Medical Delegate, who has reported that he was in a conscious and stable condition.

FIA Medical Delegate:

"After visiting Ernesto Viso this evening at the Hopital Pierre Beregovoy, Nevers, France, I am happy to report that he is conscious and in a stable condition. The force of the accident meant that he suffered concussion. His right hand and foot have been X-rayed but the results show that no damage has been sustained.

"Ernesto will be kept in hospital overnight under observation." GP2 Series PR

06/30/07 (GMM) Venezuelan driver Ernesto Viso miraculously survived an horror shunt during the GP2 support-race at Magny Cours on Saturday.

Spectators feared the worst when his single seater went airborne on the run to the Nurburgring chicane and disintegrated after it landed cockpit-first following contact with a slower car on lap one.

The race was stopped for nearly an hour while medical crews attended to Viso, who had appeared to have struck the concrete barrier with his helmet.

But incredibly to those who have studied replays of the incident, he is apparently basically unhurt, apart from a bruised right arm and a suspected concussion.

Viso was, however, transported from the circuit medical centre to the general hospital at Nevers where he will stay overnight under observation.
