Healthy attendance in Edmonton

UPDATE The final tally on attendance in Edmonton this weekend:

Friday = 46,512
Saturday = 60,132
Sunday = 60,508
Total for 3 days= 167,152

This is down 3% from 171,391 in 2006 and down 17% from 2005 when all the grandstands were full, not the gaps we saw this weekend. 167K is still far more than the IRL and ALMS drew at Mid-Ohio and we are not aware of 21,000 tickets being given away for the Champ Car event like Honda did to entertain its guests at Mid-Ohio. Of course the IRL has a good sponsor in Honda that would buy all the tickets for their employees, something Champ Car can only dream of having after being unable to land an engine manufacturer up to this point.

07/22/07 Attendance so far this weekend in Edmonton for the Rexall Grand Prix of Edmonton Champ Car race has been 46,000 on Friday and 60,000 on Saturday. An even larger crowd is expected today for the race. While not as many as the inaugural year when over 200,000 showed up for the weekend, Edmonton will still draw close to that for the weekend and it will be paid attendance, not free Honda giveaways.
