Toyota U.S. sales drop 7%

Toyota Motor Corp.’s U.S. sales fell 7% in July to 224,058 vehicles for its second sales drop in the past four months compared to the same periods last year.

Toyota, which also took a 4% hit in April sales, saw a 29% drop in Corolla sales and a 20% decline in Yaris sales in July.

The Camry was up just 1%. The Prius hybrid and new Tundra full-size pickup were up 45% and 125%, respectively.

“The industry stumbled this month, on continued housing weakness," said Jim Lentz, Toyota Motor Sales executive vice president, in a press statement. “Though Toyota didn’t match last July’s record–setting sales, heightened demand for hybrids and crossovers is reassuring, particularly with the next-generation Highlander just now hitting showrooms."
