BMW pair clear air after Nurburgring clash

(GMM) Teammates Nick Heidfeld and Robert Kubica on Thursday reportedly cleared the air following their clash at the Nurburgring.

The BMW-Sauber duo have always shared a slightly tense relationship, but it was strained even further when they both blamed each other for their first lap crash in Germany two weeks ago.

Kubica had reportedly said: "A driver who punts two of his competitors off the road within 20 laps does not have a very long future in formula one."

According to the news agency Sport-Informations-Dienst, however, team boss Mario Theissen on Thursday convened a meeting with his drivers in the BMW motor home in Hungary to discuss the incident.

Heidfeld, 30, in Budapest played down talk of "tension" with his Polish teammate, who in Hungary marks a full year since making his F1 debut.

"We get along very well with one another, but on the track we fight really hard," said Heidfeld, who is German.

He said he understood Theissen's frustration about the Nurburgring conflict, because it dashed the Hinwil based team's chance of a podium.

Heidfeld also did not want to react to Kubica's alleged comment that his Nurburgring tactics might not assure him a long future on the grid.

"I only heard about it from someone else, so it doesn't bother me," he said.
