3M Performance 400 postponed again
All parking lots will open at 6 a.m. and grandstand gates will open at 8 a.m.
Race tickets will be honored on Tuesday. Race fans that attended Sunday or Monday activities should bring back their tickets for re-entry.
A modified traffic plan will be in place for Tuesday’s event. The track asks all local citizens that use U.S. Hwy 12, M-50 or Vicary Road for their morning commute to prepare for an increased amount of traffic, and find alternate routes if possible.
Campers will be allowed to stay in all MIS-owned and operated campgrounds until noon Wednesday. Those campers who wish to leave may do so in accordance with the grounds’ normal exiting pattern.
Fans that are not camping, but wish to stay in the area for the night are welcomed to stay in their parked cars.
NASCAR and MIS officials announced the postponement at 3:50 p.m. Monday.
Stay tuned to MISpeedway.com, WJR 760 AM, SPEED Channel, ESPN, SIRIUS Satellite Radio and MIS’ Hotline at 800-354-1010 for the latest information.
08/20/07 The jet dryers have been running for the past hour, and radar indicates that we've got a window to run the race. We look for the race to start somewhere after 2:00 pm.
08/20/07 The rain has stopped, and the jet dryers are blowing. NASCAR is hoping for a 3-4 hour window. We are assuming that the race will start around 1:45 – 2:00 local time if all goes well. Tim Wohlford
08/20/07 On SPEED's NASCAR Now, NASCAR's Robin Pemberton says the plan is to try to run today, if not, then try Tuesday, then Wednesday at 10:00am/et.
08/20/07 According to WTVG (Toledo) Meteorologist Kristin Emery, the chances of getting the NASCAR race run today at Michigan aren't very good. She tells AutoRacing1, "If it's MIS, it must be raining! (It) Doesn't look good for today… more rain and very iffy for a noon start if at all." Kristin should know about rain at MIS, as she was at the rain-delayed IRL race two weeks ago at MIS. Through 3:00 (the deadline to cancel the race if it's still raining) the chance of rain is 50%.
Should NASCAR decide to run the race after the season on Thanksgiving weekend, fans should expect a high temperature of forty degrees. There is a reason why the Lions built Ford Field (and the Pontiac Silverdome before it) with a roof.
08/20/07 The noon start time for the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series 3M Performance 400 has been pushed back due to rain. NASCAR and track officials will meet at 11:30 a.m. and provide another update shortly after that time.
