Champ Car in Europe – Day 11
As dawn broke in Holland, six drivers from the Series went from handling 750 horsepower to trying to reign in 400 woolpower as the group visited a sheep farm just outside of Assen. It seems being herded from one media event to another has paid off for them, as they did a spectacular job, aided by a well trained sheep dog, in getting the entire flock out into the field. Once the early morning work was done, they went to Assen’s City Centre for the Mini Champ Car Grand Prix. Local children raced against each other, with one lucky little guy not only racing Jan Heylen in a go-kart, but beating him. On the podium, after the go-karting event, local hero Robert Doornbos presented the top-three children with special awards. The race was followed by a press conference held in the beautiful Drents Museum where local media heard from all of the drivers. In a few hours the drivers will get their first look at the TT Assen Circuit during the track walk, but early word is the track is going to lead to an exciting race.
