GM, BMW sales strong in August

UPDATE The BMW Group in the U.S. (BMW and MINI combined) reports strong August sales of 30,639 vehicles, an increase of 19.3 percent over the 25,673 vehicles sold in August 2006. The BMW Group also increased its year-to-date sales volume to 223,341 vehicles, up 8.1 percent, compared to 206,530 vehicles in the same period of 2006.

09/04/07 GM dealers in the United States delivered 388,168 vehicles in August, up more than 5 percent compared with year-ago monthly sales, a strong performance that resulted in an anticipated highest-of-the-year market share of nearly 26 percent. Brisk sales of full-size pickups and crossover SUVs led the increase.

Meanwhile, Ford Motor Co., the second-largest U.S. automaker, said its U.S. sales of cars and trucks fell 14 percent in August. Sales totaled 218,332 vehicles, declining from 255,112 a year earlier, the Dearborn, Michigan-based company said in a statement today on PR Newswire. The figures include heavy-duty trucks.
