Champ Car and Laguna try for long-term relationship

"This (2008 race at Laguna Seca) will be one I'd love to be a fan and just sit in the Corkscrew and watch," Champ Car World Series President and CEO Steve Johnson said last week. "We need to put on the best event we can with the intention of working out a multiple-year agreement."

Raceway CEO/General Manager Gill Campbell said the focus needs to be solely on 2008 at this point. "Beyond that depends on a lot of factors," she said. "We have to focus on the short-term now."

She further said that it is her desire to help make the 2008 event an unforgettable experience for everybody. And, after that, "We can put together a business plan for the future that makes sense to everyone." Monterey Herald

[Editor's Note: Fan turnout will strictly be based on the popularity of the drivers on the grid. If Champ Car puts together a stellar field of drivers for 2008 that have a fan following, attendance will be good. If they hire drivers with the biggest checkbook but no fan following, they will fail at the gate.]
