Pescarolo changes mind, will race in Brazil

Sports car legend Henri Pescarolo has reversed his decision not to take his team to Brazil, the final round of the European-based Le Mans Series. Pescarolo Sport will run one car because the team still has a chance of retaining its LMP1 prototype crown.

Peugeot drivers Stephane Sarrazin and Pedro Lamy looked like a lock for the title prior to the penultimate round of the series at Silverstone earlier this month, but their retirement from second place in the race's closing stages means the battle will go down to the wire at the 1000-mile Mil Milhas at Interlagos, home of Brazilian Grand Prix, on Nov. 10. They had to stop because their car was missing piece of bodywork that rules state must be in place at all times.

The lead Pescarolo-Judd 01 driven by Emmanuel Collard and Jean-Christophe Boullion inherited second place, which left them just two points behind the Peugeot duo. The French manufacturer's second pairing, Nicolas Minassian and Marc Gene, are a further six points adrift.

"It would be difficult to give Peugeot the championship," Pescarolo said. "I would hate to read in the newspaper that they have had a problem. It is difficult for us to do the race from a financial point of view, but we have to take a risk." AutoWeek
