Doctors rule out Pedrosa fracture

Further tests on Dani Pedrosa’s right foot have confirmed that the Repsol Honda rider has not, as first thought, suffered any fractures in the spectacular highside at Motegi last Sunday.

Instead, the Spaniard has been diagnosed with post-traumatic arthritis stemming from the incident, which also involves inflammation of the big toe. A physiotherapy program, combined with anti-inflammatory medicine and a full week of rest, should be enough to secure Pedrosa’s presence at the GMC Australian Grand Prix in two week’s time.

“The most important thing was to be sure that there was nothing broken. I really thought there was because of the pain," explains Pedrosa. “Now we just have to wait for the treatment to take its course; I will be able to return to physical training next week and get back in good shape for the next race in Australia."

The former 125cc and 250cc World Champion is currently battling for second place in the standings, although he also faces stiff competition for his current third place from Rizla Suzuki’s John Hopkins and Chris Vermeulen. As his rehabilitation begins Pedrosa will celebrate his 22nd birthday this Saturday.
