Delphi loses $100 million in August

Troy-based auto parts supplier Delphi Corp. lost $94 million in August and disclosed that at least 320 more union employees opted to leave the company, according to the company's latest monthly operating report filed late Friday.

Delphi's net loss in August was $100 million. Year to date in 2007, the company has lost $1.6 billion on revenue of $10.7 billion.

In August, 60 percent of Delphi's net sales — $925 million — were to its former parent General Motors Corp.

Delphi also said that 300 United Auto Workers employees agreed to leave and 20 members of the IUE-CWA have agreed, under a special attrition program announced in late June and largely funded by GM. Under the deal, certain Delphi hourly employees could get lump sump incentive payments of $35,000, while others could get buyouts worth as much as $140,000.

Delphi said the departure of 280 employees would cost the company $21 million. In total, more than 20,000 hourly workers at Delphi have left the company, including 10,000 that elected to flow back to GM and retire.
