Labonte Goes Pink for the Cure
Labonte’s pink “Pink for the Cure" Dodge is supporting the General Mills’ campaign that donated $2 million to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and offers anyone touched by the disease the opportunity to join the cause.
Fans can go to www.PinkTogether.com, an online community encouraging anyone touched by breast cancer to share their story. General Mills will donate $1 for every story shared on PinkTogether.com, up to $100,000, through October 31, 2007. Fans can also share their support by looking for General Mills products with special pink packaging including Cheerios, Progresso Soup and Nature Valley Granola Bars. By supporting these brands, consumers help ensure that General Mills can continue to support the fight against breast cancer.
Labonte is pitching in to the cause by donating his Cheerios/Pink for the Cure uniform and helmet to be auctioned off to help raise more money for breast cancer awareness and research. Labonte’s uniform will be auctioned off on www.komen.org while his race helmet will be auctioned off at www.bobbylabonte.com. Fans can visit both websites for more information.

“We’re really excited about Charlotte this weekend. We’ve got the Pink for the Cure Dodge we’re racing this weekend to support breast cancer awareness month. We’re doing a lot of activities around it too. I’ve got a pink uniform, a pink car, our crew is wearing pink. There is a lot of support around the car this weekend.
“It seems all month long all I’ve seen is something pink. You don’t go too far without seeing pink ribbons, shirts, hats, pink this or pink that. I’ve seen it from cars to bicycles, and the more I’ve got involved with this program the more I’m excited to get pink. It’s good for the cause and hopefully we can help raise awareness with the race fans. It’s a terrible disease, but we can help support it and hope to find a cure soon. That’s why I’ll be proud of walking in pink this weekend.
“You always do special paint schemes and you always see special programs. That is always neat, but sometimes maybe some mean more to others. I think the Pink for the Cure car is going to affect a lot of race fans. I don’t have anyone in my immediate family that I know that has had breast cancer, but I know someone who knows someone who has had it. I think you see a lot of that. It affects everybody is some way. It might not be directly, but indirectly. It is a small world and this happens too much. If we can help one person it’s worth it because it’s nothing off our back.
“We’re also looking to get back to the track and shake off this bad luck. We’ve put the last three races behind us and Charlotte is a good track to get back on track. I was hoping Charlotte was coming up quick because we know we can do some good things here. I think we’ve got some good tracks for us coming up so hopefully we can start a better streak this weekend.
“It’s going to be a good race. The track is better than ever, it’s super fast and we can put on a good show. We know what we’re getting into this weekend too. We’re not guessing. I think that has everyone feeling good. I’m excited for the weekend."
