Busch team to try 4 Sprint Cup races in ’08

SKI Motorsports officials announced Thursday at Lowe's Motor Speedway that it would field a Sprint Cup team in four races next season. Stanton Barrett will be the driver, with sponsorship coming from NOS Energy Drink. SKI Motorsports has fielded a part-time Busch Series team for the past three seasons. The team will enter the Daytona 500, the Coca-Cola 600, the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard and the Sharpie 500 in 2008.

Barrett will use the No. 50 in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Daytona 500 – the most prestigious race in NASCAR.

"We believe that there is a place in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing for smaller teams," team owner Chris Lencheski said. "The key is to build solid relationships with sponsors that are enthusiastic about the boundless opportunities available to them in NASCAR. From there, you must invest in the right people and equipment to put yourself in a position to compete with the best in the sport."

SKI and Stanton Barrett Motorsports combined forces this season in the Busch Series. An announcement on "increased involvement" by the team in the Nationwide Series will be made in the coming weeks. Scenedaily.com
