Schu happy to watch F1 finale from home
"I remember well the tension a weekend like this one means to the driver, and to be honest I am quite happy to be watching the race from my sofa at home this time," F1's record holding seven time world champion outlined in a statement.
38-year-old Schumacher's final grand prix, and ultimately failed last shot at an eighth drivers' title, took place at the Interlagos circuit last October.
"I miss him and would love to see him back in formula one — particularly in the current situation," Bernie Ecclestone, referring to the rare three-way battle for the title, was quoted as saying by the Austrian news agency APA on Thursday.
Schumacher, still tied with Ferrari, said he would cross his fingers for his successor Kimi Raikkonen, who is three points behind McLaren's Fernando Alonso and a further four adrift of championship leader Lewis Hamilton.
But he said he has no regrets that he is no longer in the title spotlight.
"As I've said so many times before, my family and I feel wonderful with the life that we have nowadays," said Schumacher.
