Atlantic schedule features two standalone races

The 2008 Champ Car Atlantic Championship schedule will feature two stand-alone races among its twelve dates, while the idea of a non-championship finale has been resurrected following the cancellation of this year's Phoenix debacle which was the latest in a long line of embarrassing cancellations by the sanctioning body.

The championship, which will celebrate its 35th season next year, has added rounds at the historic Trois-Rivieres circuit in Canada and the Miller Motorsport Park in Utah to its other more established dates, while the non-championship finale will take place alongside the Champ Car showdown at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City in early November.

Trois-Rivières returns to the calendar for the first time since 2003, taking the Atlantics back to a circuit made famous by the exploits of local favorite Gilles Villeneuve, and will serve as the feature race at a mid-August racing festival, pending city council approval later this month.

The first Atlantic event at Miller Motorsports Park, outside Salt Lake City, follows on 21 September, and will bring the curtain on the championship season.
