Honda engineer honored by university

(GMM) Rubens Barrichello's race engineer at Honda has been awarded an honorary doctorate by his former university.

Jock Clear, who previously guided Jacques Villeneuve to Williams' last world championship in 1997, was to be given the title Doctor of Engineering by Scotland's Heriot-Watt university at graduation ceremonies on Thursday, reports said.

Clear, who graduated with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering in 1987, deserves the honor due to his "outstanding success in applying engineering science in the most demanding and competitive of environments", the famous university, located in Edinburgh, said.

Clear started working in formula one in 1988 for teams including Benetton, Lotus and BAR.
