Coulthard scolds Tost for Alonso remarks

(GMM) David Coulthard has scolded a Red Bull stable-mate for firing speculation that his spot on the 2008 grid might not be secure.

Franz Tost, boss of the Red Bull co-owned team Toro Rosso, seemed recently to confirm rumors that talks are going on between the energy drink marque and double world champion Fernando Alonso.

"As far as I know, there are talks between Red Bull and Alonso," the Austrian had said, amid speculation that Coulthard could be slotted into a Toro Rosso seat next year to make room for the Spaniard.

Coulthard, who describes his Red Bull Racing contract for next year as "binding" and specific, said he was surprised by Tost's remarks.

"I cannot understand why he would feel it's appropriate to make a comment about another team, owned by the same parent company, without any authority to do so and no understanding of the contractual situation," the Scot wrote in his column for ITV.

"STR had the same car as us this year but nowhere near the same performance so shouldn't he be concentrating on his own business rather than ours?" Coulthard quipped.

The 36-year-old revealed that his contract for 2008 is watertight, but he is also confident in the integrity of Red Bull mogul Dietrich Mateschitz.

"He is a man of his word," Coulthard explained.
