Ex-Indy driver Walther sentenced
Former Indianapolis 500 driver David D. "Salt" Walther was sentenced to three years in prison for leading police on a chase at speeds of up 100 mph. Greene County Common Pleas Court Judge Stephen Wolaver sentenced the 59-year-old Walther on Wednesday after a jury convicted him of failing to comply with an order or signal of a police officer after a two-day trial.
Assistant Greene County Prosecutor David Hayes said Walther led police departments in the Dayton suburbs of Beavercreek and Centerville on a chase in July. A message seeking comment was left for defense attorney Charles Bursey.
Walther, who raced in the Indianapolis 500 seven times, was injured in a fiery 1973 crash at the 500.
In August, Walther was sentenced to two years and two months in prison for nonsupport of dependents and violating terms of an earlier sentence. ESPN.com
