ALMS to use E85 Bioethanol
The American Le Mans Series should become the first championship in the world to use second-generation bioethanol fuel. The ALMS will introduce an E85 fuel option in 2008 in place of the E50 it originally planned to bring in this year but never did. It will incorporate a second-generation bio element sometime during next season. The sanctioning body says it takes less energy to manufacture the second-gen, or cellulosic, bioethanol than traditional grain-based ethanol; because it can be made with waste matter, it is less disruptive to the food chain.
