New race teams building shops in Indy

With the new David Powers Motorsports headquarters in Brownsburg now open for business, construction is underway nearby on a new facility for Kenny Bernstein Racing.

“Brownsburg and the west side of Indianapolis have become for drag racing what Charlotte is for NASCAR," said Ted Yerzyk, public relations manager for Powers Motorsports.

Other top drag racing teams moving to Brownsburg in recent years include those of John Force and Don Schumacher. Powers and Bernstein’s firms received 10-year tax abatements from the town, incentives used to attract companies.

“Brownsburg has really opened their arms and embraced the racing community," Bernstein said. “We saw all the other teams here and felt comfortable with it."

Though some finishing touches remain, activity already is under way in the new David Powers Motorsports headquarters on Southpoint Circle behind John Force’s facility. Crew members for Powers’ two Top Fuel race teams already have moved into the new 42,000-square-foot building and begun to build engines and cars in preparation for next year’s season. Indystar.com
