Ho-Pin Tung to race in 31 GP2 races in ’08

Dutch-Chinese driver Ho-Pin Tung has signed a contract with the GP2 Trident racing team for 2008. Ho-Pin will not only compete in the European GP2 series but will also race in the new GP2 Asia series. In two weeks time the first of the extraordinary amount of 31 races will start in Dubai. “Having completed my rookie season in GP2 last year, I look forward to race with top team Trident in 2008. This year, victories and podiums are the target," says Ho-Pin determined. It’s no secret he is trying hard to achieve his ultimate goal: Being the first ever Formula 1 racing driver. A successful second season in GP2 will help to make his dream come true. Significant is the agreement with the (Formula 1) Circuit of Shanghai which will partner Ho-Pin Tung this season; the GP2 driver will promote the Chinese Formula 1 Grand Prix. “I am very honored being invited to promote the Chinese Grand Prix all over the world, particularly also in China."

Yesterday Trident-team principal Alessandro Alunni Bravi and Ho-Pin Tung signed the agreement for the Asian and European GP2 Championship at the teams headquarters in Milan. Tung will be partnered by team mate Mike Conway which provides Trident a strong line up, the forthcoming season. Both drivers made their debut in this Formula One feeder category last year. Ho-Pin Tung’s best result was 4th place in Belgium at Spa Francorchamps whereas Mike Conway achieved his best result with 2d place in Great Britain at Silverstone.

The Trident team started in the GP2 series in 2006 and already has an impressive track record. Highlight of last season was the team’s victory in Monaco. “It’s a young and dynamic team which presents itself with style. More important is that the team is extremely professional and makes no concessions when it comes to quality, resources, technological choices and efficiency", according to a enthusiastic Ho-Pin Tung, immediately after signing his contract. “I have been here a couple of times now and I am impressed by the resources and dedication and by the technological level of the team.’

Ho-Pin Tung is looking forward with confidence to the “double" race season 2008. “Last year I gained a lot of experience which is essential in this ultra competitive series. This year I can use my experience in a top caliber team and contribute to further developing the car and the team. This opportunity provides me with another important step in my career leading to Formula One’, says Ho-Pin Tung in Milan.
