Rayhall Becomes Youngest Open-Wheel Race Winner
Sean Rayhall |
After a very strong showing at Road Atlanta, Sean Rayhall was ready to take home his first official win of his young open-wheel racing career. Practice would start off well with the second best time in the opening round. He would continue to improve his times and position with the fastest lap in the second session. Sean would then go on to follow this up with pole position in the rain by nearly two seconds.
Sean would maintain his lead going into turn one for the first race of the weekend and would never be challenged after that. He would go on to win his first car race while becoming the youngest open-wheel race winner in US history by just two months. The margin of victory was over four seconds.
With the win in race one, Sean would start from pole in race two. This time the start did not go as well as he would fall back to third after the opening lap. Showing maturating beyond his years Sean would not panic and with an ill handing car would let the two leaders make mistakes. Well that is exactly what would happen, as the two leaders would take themselves out of the race. With a twelve second lead on the rest of the field Sean would coast to his second win of the weekend.
Next up is the third round of the Skip Barber Series January 26-27 at Homestead Speedway. Sean now leads the Sportsman division by three points.
