01/15/08 It comes with a six-hole golf course, six-car garage, a pond, a 900-square-foot master suite, about $35,000 in annual property taxes and the right to tell everyone you own Michael Andretti's old house.
The champion racecar driver's 12,000-square-foot mansion, complete with cedar-lined closets, a workout room and a two-story, domed foyer, is on the market. The price tag: $3.4 million.
And if the golf course, gargantuan pool and wine cellar don't have quite enough panache for you, the next-door neighbor is an Italian guy who won the Formula One World Championship and the Daytona and Indianapolis 500s: Mario Andretti.
Michael Andretti, the son of racing legend Mario Andretti, the father of current Indy Racing League star Marco Andretti and owner of Andretti Green Racing, might be moving.
His sister, Barbara Andretti, is the listing agent at Exit Fast Track Realty. She said Michael "lives everywhere" but plans to stay close to the family's Nazareth-area roots.
"His family is here," Barbara Andretti said. "He lives wherever his business goes."
Barbara offered no comment on why her brother is seeking to sell the home he built in 1986 on Rose Inn Avenue. Michael Andretti's father later built a home on land adjacent to his son's.
"Life changes," Barbara Andretti said. "That's all I can say."
Michael, 45, and divorced twice, married former Playboy Playmate Jodi Ann Paterson in 2006. He retired from driving in 2003 but raced at the Indy 500 in 2006 and 2007. He now pilots the Andretti Green Racing team from pit row and owns a multitude of businesses, including restaurants and power sports dealerships.
Barbara Andretti said the home would be marketed around the world on the Internet and in a variety of print media, considering its multiple amenities and picturesque setting. The real estate listing appeared in the Home Source section of Saturday's Express-Times.
Bushkill Township Supervisor Clifford Bonney said he heard about the possible sale of Andretti's house but didn't know why he might move.
"If he's moving, he must have a good reason other than taxes," Bonney said. Express Times
