Scott Speed sports new look in Daytona

Last year as a driver in Formula One, Scott Speed shaved his head. Thursday, Speed was walking around the ARCA RE/MAX Series garage at Daytona International Speedway with Billy Idol-style hair. The short, bleached blond-white spike suits Speed's personality.

"I never stay with the same look," said Speed, ARCA's most notable driver of its rookie class. "I like to evolve the style and change it and I always have a bit of a European look, but at the moment I'm just changing it up a little bit."

The statement and style bodes the question: "Are the boys of ARCA ready for Scott Speed?"

Better still, is Speed ready for ARCA?

"The biggest change in the racing here is it's a lot more hands-on," Speed said. "In

F-1 there was a room of 200 engineers that came up with a new wing that you were running that weekend. As a driver, there was very little input and very little effect on the outcome."

The 25-year old isn't the first driver to come from the open-wheel ranks — or even F-1 — to ARCA, but he is the first F-1 driver to come to ARCA as a full-time participant in the series. More at Daytona Beach News Journal
