Ammermuller vows title fight

Michael Ammermuller believes A1 Team Germany will again be fighting for the overall title at the end of the season, despite having four teams to overhaul in order to do so.

The 22–year-old raced for Germany last time out in Sydney, and although he didn’t have a stellar weekend, all of its rivals’ misfortunes meant that it only lost two points to title leader New Zealand.

Germany has fought back from languishing 14th in the standings after the third round of the championship in Malaysia, to being in serious title contention as the season reaches its climax.

However, it will need to score better results in the last four rounds than New Zealand, France, Switzerland and South Africa if it is to successfully defend its 2006/07 crown.

‘For us, Sydney seemed quite a bad weekend, but in terms of the championship we didn’t actually lose a lot,’ Ammermuller said.

‘We were one of the best teams and we can still win the title from here. It’s not too far away and there are still a lot of races to go.

‘I don’t know which races I will do yet, but if they decide I will drive then I shall definitely grab this opportunity. I don’t know the circuits of Durban, Mexico or Brands Hatch which are coming up, but I like learning new tracks so am looking forward to it.’
