Laguna Seca replaces Champ Car event with IMSA historic race
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca announced that a race for historic IMSA cars will replace the canceled Champ Car World Series race scheduled for May 18 as part of the track's Monterey Festival of Speed. The recent unification of Champ Car and the Indy Racing League resulted in Laguna Seca looking for a replacement event, as the IndyCar Series schedule is unable to accommodate the track this season.
The May 16-18 weekend will include four different types of races: the Grand-Am Sports Car Series, the Atlantic Series, Formula BMW and the Historic IMSA race for cars from the 1970s and '80s.
Additionally, Kruse International will hold a classic-car show and auction on Saturday, May 17; 150 cars are expected to be auctioned. AutoWeek
