Czech Republic team driver change

A1 Team Czech Republic has made a surprise driver switch for the rest of the season, with Filip Salaquarda being recalled to race instead of Josef Kral for the final three meetings.

Seventeen-year-old Kral had been announced by the team as its lead driver for the rest of the season, however, was not able to impress in Durban, with a best finish of 16th in the Feature race.

He will now be replaced by Salaquarda for the final three meetings of the 2007/08 campaign, beginning with Mexico next weekend. The 24-year-old had his only two previous A1GP caps at Shanghai, one of the other circuits remaining on this season’s A1GP schedule.

‘I am very happy that I will do all three remaining events of the A1GP season,’ Salaquarda said.

‘I do not know the track in Mexico but I am eligible to participate in the rookie test, so I should learn the track quickly. I raced in A1GP in Shanghai last year and Bands Hatch is no stranger to me.

‘I am really looking forward to all the races because I feel that I am well prepared. I am fully focused on the A1GP and I hope that I will not disappoint the team’s faith in me.’

The team has not ruled out using Kral again next season, however.

'I am not excluding cooperation with Josef Kral in the future but it is not today’s topic,' said seat holder Antonin Charouz.
