Rain forces cancellation of NASCAR Nationwide Series qualifying
The series had two practices scheduled Friday at the 0.533-mile track, but rain washed both of those away. Instead of qualifying Saturday morning, NASCAR has slated a practice from 8:30 to 10 a.m. EDT.
The National Weather Service calls for a 100 percent chance of rain Saturday, though most of the wet weather is mainly after 2 p.m.
The Sharpie Mini 300 is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Saturday, and there is not enough room on the schedule for practice and qualifying.
Scott Wimmer will start on the pole as NASCAR set the field via the Nationwide Series rulebook. Wimmer drives the No. 29 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet, which won the 2007 owners championship.
Starting second is Denny Hamlin in Joe Gibbs Racing’s No. 20 Toyota.
The two drivers who failed to make the race were Penske Racing's Sam Hornish Jr. and Mac Hill Motorsports' Danny O'Quinn.
