Turvey and Meyrick win first round at Oulton Park

Carlin drivers Oliver Turvey and Andy Meyrick won in the International Class and National Class races at Oulton Park this morning, in a thrilling opening round to the 2008 British F3 International Series. Racing Steps Foundation driver Turvey led the race from the start, having passed team mate Jaime Alguersuari off the line. With Brendon Hartley moving up to third, Carlin looked to have secured a dominant 1-2-3 finish until a clash between the two Red Bull cars resulted in retirement.

National winner Andy Meyrick continued his dominant form from winter testing to take an impressive win at his home track. Sam Abay and Kristjan Einar made impressive progress in their first F3 event, with Abay scoring points on his F3 debut in tenth place. Kristjan Einar enjoyed some exciting racing on his way to fifth in the national class race.

Race winner Oliver Turvey said, “It’s a fantastic result for everyone. We’ve worked so hard over the winter; the team have done a great job with the car. Obviously the Racing Steps Foundation have enable me to come to the first race ready to win. I had a good start and I knew that I could win it when I got into the first corner first – I just had to be careful and try and control the race. I was surprised not to see Jaime and Brendon behind me towards the end and from then on I was able to back off a little bit as there was a quite a big gap back to Max."
