Singapore tests night race lights

(GMM) Singapore on Sunday trialled the lighting system for F1's first ever street race, to be held in the Asian city-state later this year.

A stretch of the circuit was illuminated with the same lights that will be used when official action kicks off in Singapore in late September, the Chinese broadcaster CCTV reported.

The report said sixteen of the lights were turned on along the city stretch on Sunday evening, simulating the effect of the night event.

On race day, 1500 such lights will illuminate the entire circuit in Singapore's Marina Bay area.

The lighting will measure 3000 lux, which is almost four times brighter than a typical sports arena.

Even so, officials will alert drivers to on-track cautions with coloured trackside digital lights, to complement the usual flag marshals and signs.
