Rain possible for St. Pete

The St. Petersburg grand prix has enjoyed great weather during its Indy Racing League rebirth. But the law of averages might be coming with an unwelcome guest this time.

The WFLA, Channel 8 weather forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of rain today and 50 percent Saturday and Sunday. On weather.com, the chance of precipitation Sunday is 60 percent.

Both the IRL Indy cars and American Le Mans Series sports cars will run in the rain if necessary. But that's a scenario nobody is hoping for.

"From simply a setting and background standpoint, rain would be really disappointing," IRL present Brian Barnhart said. "It's such a beautiful setting with the harbor, the ambiance and the fans."
