Button – I’ll be with Honda in 2009

Jenson Button

(GMM) Jenson Button on Friday said he will still be a Honda driver in 2009.

It is understood that the 28-year-old's current deal with the Brackley based squad runs out at the end of this season.

But although apparently now pledging to stay next year, the Englishman refused to rule out switching to another team at some point in the future.

"Everybody's got imagination and nobody can see into the future," Button is quoted as saying by F1's official website.

"For the moment I am very happy with where I am and I will be with Honda next season. And that is what I am concentrating on," he added.

Button, whose only win was scored at the wheel of a Honda in Hungary two years ago, made his debut as a 20-year-old with Williams in 2000.

Honda's team CEO Nick Fry said at the Australian grand prix this year that the two sides are working towards a new deal for 2009.

"He's certainly someone we want on our side," he said, adding that Button's management and Honda chiefs would likely sit down "later this year".
