Dover patching pit road asphalt

Dover International Speedway workers were patching the asphalt near the first few stalls on the Turn 4 side of pit road Sunday morning in preparation for the Best Buy 400 Sprint Cup race later in the day.

While drying pit road just prior to the green flag of the Nationwide Series event Saturday, the heat of the jet drier burned the asphalt and then the force of the air blowing from the jet drier ripped up the burned pieces of asphalt across pit road.

There were no incidents in that area during the Nationwide race, but NASCAR officials asked the track to put down a patch of new asphalt in the area for the race today.

The patch is about 25 feet long and 10 feet wide and is next to the pit stalls of Hendrick Motorsports’ Casey Mears and Michael Waltrip Racing’s David Reutimann. Scendaily.com
