IMS to host MotoGP test

MotoGP teams are scheduled to test at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 1-2 in preparation for the Red Bull Indianapolis Grand Prix on Sept. 14. Red Bull AMA U.S. Rookies Cup riders get their turn July 3.

About 10 test riders, none of them regulars on the MotoGP circuit, are expected for the test, which is designed mainly to check tires on the new 2.62-mile IMS road course. The sessions run from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day and are open to the public.

Spain's Dani Pedrosa won last weekend in Catalunya to move within seven points (142-135) of Italian Valentino Rossi atop the season standings. Defending champion Casey Stoner of Australia is fourth and Colin Edwards is the top American in fifth.

American Ben Spies, an AMA Superbike veteran, has been named to replace injured Loris Capirossi for next weekend's British Grand Prix. Spies' MotoGP debut was to have come July 20 at Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif., in a deal to run the two U.S. races. Indystar.com
