F1 guys won’t ‘do a Senna’ for pole

(GMM) Jenson Button has played down suggestions that a formula one driver might 'do a Bruno Senna' to capture pole position for the French grand prix.

Senna, the nephew of the legendary late Ayrton Senna, aced qualifying at Magny-Cours on Friday fractions of a second before slamming into the barriers on the exit of the final corner.

It is suggested that – given the proximity of the finish line – the fastest way to complete a qualifying lap at Magny-Cours these days is to literally throw the car through the final bend.

There is no suggestion that Senna deliberately crashed to set pole, but Honda's Button doubts that spinning out of the last corner at Magny-Cours is faster in a formula one car.

"Most of us come off that second curb and if you just try and plant the throttle, you just get wheelspin," he said, according to Speed TV.

"So you don't gain any time from it, even if you drive off to the right on the green stuff. I don't think it's quicker for us, especially, and I don't think it's quicker for a formula one car."
