Carpentier to skip Pocono to concentrate on Montreal

Gillett Evernham Motorsports officials announced Tuesday that Sprint Cup driver Patrick Carpentier will skip the Aug. 3 race at Pocono Raceway to concentrate on the Nationwide Series event the same weekend in Montreal.

The team also announced that Subway restaurants will sponsor Carpentier’s No. 9 Dodge in Montreal.

“We know how amazing Patrick is at Montreal and want him to concentrate on winning that race like he almost did last year," GEM CEO Tom Reddin said in a news release. “Montreal is Patrick’s hometown, and Subway restaurants will be a major presence throughout practice, qualifying and the race weekend. It will be good for Subway, our team, Patrick, NASCAR and our other partners."

Reddin also said the team plans to announce a substitute driver for Carpentier at Pocono in the coming weeks.
