In June, the Formula BMW Americas drivers faced a tight schedule. Within the space of two weeks, the young racers proved their skills in four races. In three of the four rounds, Alexander Rossi (US) made it to the highest step on the podium.

When the young-gun series travelled to Montreal to contest one of its season highlights – the rounds held on 7th and 8th June as part of the support program of the Canadian Grand Prix – Rossi had to share the glory with BMW Junior Ricardo Favoretto (BR) who delivered in fine style on the wet track: In the third round of the season, Favoretto claimed victory in front of the huge GP crowd. In the second round at the “Circuit Gilles Villeneuve", however, Favoretto experienced bad luck when he was involved in a collision and had to retire. Rossi used this chance and secured his maiden win of the season.

In the two Formula BMW Americas staged at the “Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course", Rossi again proved to be the yardstick. He not only won both races but was also the fastest in the practice and qualifying sessions. Favoretto finished second in both Mid-Ohio rounds. Thanks to his impressive performances, Rossi now has a total of 91 points and holds the lead in the Drivers’ Championship, followed by Favoretto (63 points) and Giancarlo Vilarinho (BR, 48).

Additionally it was announced in July that Lime Rock, Road America and the New Jersey Motorsport Park will each be the venue of thee Formula BMW Americas rounds. Consequently, the young guns on the American continent will have the chance of contesting as many races as their fellow drivers in Europe and the Pacific region. The first three-race package will be held this weekend at Lime Rock Park.
